This kind of barrier is used to stop big rocks which develop kinetic energy of up to 2000Kj at the point of impact. They are usually sited so as to stop the rocks in an area well away from the protected zone. It is made of steel supports with 2- directional joints at the base and the blocking structure, a hexagonal link net. A braking system linked to the base means that the energy from the rock is absorbed gradually through the progressive deformation of the barrier. The barrier has undergone life sized crash tests to verify its behavioural characteristics using a block which developed 2000Kj at 29m/s. The test certificate was issued by the Faculty of Engineering, Politecnico of Turin. |
