6* Rigid snow blocks (snow bridges) These barriers are sited on slopes subject to avalanches and are used to stop compact blocks of snow from falling towards the valley. They are steel structures attached to the ground via steel supports and provide a large surface area to stop the snow. Single structures are positioned side by side and form lines along which the avalanche is stopped.
