These barriers are sited on slopes subject to avalanches and are used to stop compact blocks of snow from falling to the valley. They are panels of (usually triangular) steel rope net kept in position by steel supports which are anchored to the ground. In this way a continuous surface which stops the snow from falling to the valley is created. If necessary it is also possible to erect several rows. The light weight of the structure and versatility of its components makes this particularly suitable for use in areas difficult to reach. |
